@jaekicho, @mikeyfresh1, @rekstizzy, & @eeesong–I need your help. I’m trying to find out the name of this Korean paste/sauce that always comes with any good Korean BBQ. I went to BBQ Village the other night and no one I was with could figure what it was called. Recipes are welcome too.

(By “Taiwanese” I mean the food; by “takeover” I mean my stomach)

Last night I took some time to grab a late dinner with @jaekicho, @esymai, @eeesong and company at a cozy Taiwanese spot in the Asian/Latino ethnic enclave* known as Elmhurst, Queens. @jaekicho is an avid fan of the Taiwanese cuisine and usually invites me out to a spot in Flushing for late night braised pork + cabbage runs. This time we decided to switch it up and head out West with some compadres for a change of scenery.

After we devoured our meal and had ourselves a nice politically incorrect conversation (shame on all of us), we sat back and looked at the barren plates in front of us. Most memorable was the 3 cup chicken, which is cooked with basil and other assorted ingredients that I can’t seem to grasp right now (though I’m pretty sure soy sauce is one of them). If you’re ever in Elmhurst, swing by Taiwanese Specialties (8402 Broadway Elmhurst, NY 11373) for a different side of the Chinese cuisine.

*It should be noted 60% of the borough could probably qualify as an Asian/Latino enclave. Queens=the newother LA. Shout-outs to @jerrymeng.

I worked and drove all day. I think pictures of being on Mac Books have become synonymous with our generations concept of working hard and grinding. Despite our motivation to succeed, I would estimate 85% of us have one tab with Facebook open.

I really don’t want this blog to turn into a “look-at-how-much attention I need to make myself feel important-cool-my-life-is” blog. However, I’ll document the highlights for a few unique hits. The night started off with 2 dope boys in a ’94 Corolla on a mission to party and ended at sunrise. Somewhere in between DJ Neil Armstrong and Far East Movement were involved. Our first location was Bob’s on Eldridge Street in the New York Magazine-ified Lower East Side. There we met up with E. Song and watched Rek eviscerate a 40 oz with 1980′s styled quickness. If there was anyone keeping the traditions of the golden era of hip-hop alive it’s Rek. Afterwards we caught up with Neil (pictured above), who helped us get into Bob’s with similar quickness. With time being of the essence we had to leave early, before Neil went on. Neil, if you’re reading this–we deeply apologize. As a peace offering, I’ll let you run an ad on yellowrebelblog.com for one month for djneilarmstrong.com.

After making our exit we made our way back to the Corolla and made our way to midtown–to 41st St and 6th Avenue, to a highly lauded Korean nightclub playing highly loud non-Korean music called Circle. There we linked up with these guys:

Circle, can be best described as an epilepsy inducing nightlife spot that you see at the “club” scene in virtually every movie. Only with mad Asians.

To sum up our experience, we partied it up Far East Movement (special thanks to Progress), and hit the dance floor and kicked it like it was 2005–throwing ‘bows, spilling dranks and raising the ire of casual on-lookers who were expecting to have legitimate conversations at the bar.

Afterwards we picked up my younger brother back in the Lower East Side, trekked to Jackson Heights in Queens for Korean food and then dropped everyone off. Not exactly the most climactic ending to the story but my fingers are tired of typing and uploading pics.

…for the most obvious rap video to get posted around the blogosphere. Lol. But in all seriousness this song/video is a classic. It’s a Queens thing. Maybe Rek and I will do a remake. Ha.
